To better serve their communities, Cass Regional Medical Center vision included a brand new facility in order to meet the increasing demand for quality healthcare and outreach in the region. Teamed with HWA and JEDunn Construction, BranchPattern was chosen as the healthcare systems design experts and the best suited to help Cass Regional realize their objective of a new facility.
Meeting with facility stakeholders early in the discovery phase proved valuable in understanding the high-priority of Cass Regional’s energy-efficiency goals. BranchPattern lead the Director of Facilities’ team through an eco-charrette, identifying sustainable solutions, supporting the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and the Basis-of-Design (BoD) for systems.
Energy consumption was reduced by utilizing high-efficiency boilers, water-cooled centrifugal chillers with indoor condenser water sump and vari-prime pumping. Early stage Energy Modeling confirmed sustainable strategies. The final project space included a 35-bed facility, medical/surgical unit, intensive care unit and behavioral health unit. A new, more efficient central plant was installed.
Cass Regional’s mission is to provide accessible care to the communities it serves, including family practice clinics in the communities of Archie, Drexel, Garden City, Harrisonville, Peculiar and Pleasant Hill. Since completion, the new facility has created access to more than 75,000 annual patient visits at the center and its affiliated locations. With more than 400 employees, Cass Regional is one of the largest employers in the region.
